Philippians 4:13 - “We can do all the things through Christ who gives us strength.” Without the lord and savior, Jesus Christ who provides the strength, wisdom and patience while on our journey and whose love and blessings were showered upon us and made our educational tour truly richly rewarding in knowledge gained and returned us safely to the comforts of our home.

We would like to share our truly ecstatic experience from a successful educational tour which would not have been possible without support from our parent, teachers, and to those who extended their connections.

Indeed, the “2008 ICT Educational Tour” reinforced our classroom knowledge of various IT concepts, deployment and applications. We learned of various innovative IT solutions that are seamlessly integrated with modern business processes and methods that otherwise cannot be observed in the classroom. Those IT solutions showcased aggressive, and yet subtle, competitive stance in the market place, the tour also accorded on the opportunity to update on IT trends and emerging technologies – firsthand.

We can say that the educational tour truly “snatched us from the claws of ignorance” of the business and ICT real world. IT was a rewarding experience for us. It gave us the personal confidence we need prior to our deployment to the business/industry immersion program as on-the-job trainees.

The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BS InfoTech) is based on core courses that provide students with a combination of knowledge, hands-on experience and application of theory to information technology issues. The program keeps pace with changing technology and related business practices. After 2 years of triumphs, obstacles, hardships and challenges strewn across our path, finally at the first semester of our third year in this institute, undertook the “Information Technology Educational Tour" under the subject IT major6 Current Trends, Issues, Computer Seminars and Inspection Trips of which the tour is part of the syllabus.

Prof. Exequiel A. Mariano Jr., our teacher, father, mentor, and our best friend. Together with the whole class, we arranged an Educational tour in the Greater Manila Area, supervised by our professor, we got in touch with Royal Quest Tours headed by our tour master Mrs. Nora “Nhing” Paraguya. We arranged a contract signed by each of our classmate to attend the said educational tour. But we were threatened that it would be cancelled because almost half of the class said they could not provide for the payment of our tour. It was devastating for the whole class to know that all our effort and hard work will all go down the drain. So we did all we can to pursue our tour. We went off, made solicitations and thankfully, to those who extended their connections, we were able to provide the amount needed for the tour to continue. But still, the struggle continues. As days are closing in to the first day of travel, those who said that they were going to the tour backed out due lack of financial assistance.

Devastation attacked once more. But nothing can stop us from pursuing our dream to travel to different IT facilities in Manila so we strived to collect more money for the others to go with the rest of the IT family. More solicitations and more sponsors came up and we are very thankful for their generosity, the tour and all of us are more than ready. With less than 3 days to go, most of our group has already packed their clothes. Excitement stroke the whole IT family like lightning as days are closing in to the first day of travel. Yeah!!!!!! Our most-awaited day has finally arrived!! We’re locked and loaded.

Day 1 (Travel Day | August 25 - 29, 2008)

The most awaited day of the pioneer batch of IT finally arrived. At last, the long wait is over. We are all armed and ready. Our trip to Tabaco from San Andres was around 1:00 pm, so we were told to go early in our meeting place which is just in front of the Catanduanes State Colleges campus. Around 10:30 almost all of us are already there and the jeep was already there. Around 10:45, we took off to San Andres. At around 11:15, we arrived at the San Andres seaport. We ate lunch and got our tickets. Got inside the ferry at around 12:00 pm. At around 1:00pm, the ferry set sail and almost 3 hours of traveling at sea (grateful that nobody got seasick), we arrived at Tabaco port at around 4:00 pm. we had expected that our bus was there but a slight problem came up so we waited almost 2 hours for the bus to arrive. Around 5:45, at last our bus arrived. We went off at almost 6:00 pm. We had dinner at Peranakan Bar and grill at the Albay Astrodome at around 7:30 pm and we went off, continued the travel. Finally, We arrived at the Garden Plaza Hotel at Paco Manila at around 5:00 am. Twelve hours of travel was exhausting

Although we looked haggard and sleepy from the trip, we still managed to take photos while Mrs. Nhing Paraguya arranged our accommodation. We were finally ushered to our assigned rooms at 5 o’clock for 2 hours of sleep. We had to wake up early for the day’s activity.

Day 2 (First Day of Tour | August 26, 2008)

NCC-National Computer Center

Almost all of us haven’t got some sleep, but our tour starts at 7:00, so we just got into our rooms, fixed our things, got ready then we had breakfast at Meyer’s Food and Services Inc. At around 7:30, we head off to PSEI on Ortigas. We arrived there at around 9:30 because of some problems on the road. While at the company, we saw their facilities and we were amazed on how they monitor the stocks exchange. While we were watching as the transaction was on going, they conducted a seminar about stocks and their importance of stock exchange. At around 12:00 pm, our seminar ended. We waited outside for about an hour, grabbing the opportunity to fill our stomachs with food because we were already hungry. We went to the food court inside the East Tower Food Court eat our lunch. At around 1:00 pm, we headed to UP Diliman at the National Computer Center. We arrived there at around 1:30 and they gave us a little tour on our way to the conference room. There were all kinds of computers, mainframes, servers etc. While we were at the conference room, we had a seminar about computers and the history of the NCC. We've discussed about the trends regarding the issues on Information Systems Security (ISS). After the seminar, Sir Jun gave us time to go window shopping or shopping itself at Trinoma mall in Quezon City. We left UP Diliman at around 3:00 pm and arrived at Trinoma at around 4:00 and had fun looking around for stuffs to buy. After that, we headed back to accommodation at around 6:30. We arrived at the hotel around 7:30 and had our dinner. At last!! Finally, time to relax and have some goodnight sleep. But before going to sleep, almost all of us went to each room for some “kulitan” time. Then at around 11:00 pm, all were asleep, well, almost all of us were asleep. Goodnight everyone!!

Day 3 (Second Day of Tour | August 27, 2008)

At around 5:00, some of us are already up and getting ready. But some of the guys went to every room for the "Wake Up Call" as they say. Waking up each and everyone in each room (except the faculty members). Then everybody got ready. At 7:00, we head off to Trend Micro at EastWood Libis. We not actually arrrived at the Trend Micro building because the driver of our bus was lost. So we walked to the IBM building where Trend Micro is located. After we arrived at the company, we were suprised because they were all approachable compared to other companies we've visited. In fact, the staf that headed us was also a "Bicolano".

They conducted a seminar about the mission and objectives of their company. After having seminar we had our snacks which was sponsored by Trend Micro.After that, the speaker gave us time to see their facilities.. We've seen how the employees are responsible for their work and we noticed that most of the employees were freshly graduate of the different universities. At around 12:00 p.m. We went to the McDonalds (Love ko to'!!) near to the IBM and had our lunch.

We headed off to the BIR at Quezon, City afer we had lunch. At around 1:30 p.m.,we arrived at the BIR. They conducted a seminar that lasted almost 2 to 3 hours. The speaker conducted the seminar about the local taxation of government agencies as well as private companies and explains that all of us was responsible to pay taxes because taxes supports the government project which the beneficiaries are the Filipino citizens. After the seminar has ended, we had a tour on the BIR Contact Center. Then after that, we had a second day of malling at Tutuban Mall at Tutuban,Quezon,City. Most of us, have bought so many stuffs because of the cheaper prices compared to the first day of our malling. And for us it so really tired looking around for the stuffs to buy but it was fun just looking around. At around 7:00 p.m., we headed back to the accomodation. And after we arrived to the hotel, we had our dinner . And finally.. it's the end of our 3rd day of tour.

We finally had some rest. But as usual, most of us made "kulitan" before they finally went to sleep. But some of the boys, as usual had a what we call "session", this session almost all of the boys were invited and even the girls were invited in 1 room to drink and get drunk as part of the fun and experience. That's college life. Some of us got drunk and some of us slept just as that. So most of the boys had less sleep or better yet no sleep at all.

Day 4 (Last Day of Tour | August 28, 2008)

At around 5:30 am, the wake up call from the reception rang all of our rooms. Some got up and some just wanna have more sleep but its time to get ready because our last day in Manila. All of our things were packed and ready. After we ate our breakfast at the hotel, we checked out and then got going. We head off early because our next destination is Laguna, and its a long way going there.. At around 7:15, we were on the road to El Dorado, sorry.. I mean, We were on the road to Hitachi Global Storage Technologies in Laguna. And at around 9:45, we arrived at the Laguna Technofarm where Hitachi Company is located.

The company is very strict about our shoes and clothes, so when we got inside the facility, the staffs there gave us all some shoe cover because it is their Standard Operating Procedure(SOP) that there must be no dust or any contaminant in the facility. All of us put on the shoe cover and we headed off to the conference area where we had a small introduction on what HITACHI really does. They develop "hard disks" in computers and laptops and introduced us their latest creation which is the TERABYTE. It can store 20 times more than the a simple hard disk. 1 terabite is equals to 1000 gigabite. Now, imagine how much will that store???.. Even I can't imagine that. It's really amazing. Then after a short seminar, we went out to have a tour around the company.

We were really amazed on how they do it. After the tour, we headed to the company's canteen where we had our lunch. Then we headed off to the last destination of our trip.. To Wet and Wild La Vista Resort in Pansol,Laguna. It's takes 2 to 3 hours before we arrived. When we were in the Pansol, Laguna.. Most of us takes time to play ..make "kulitan".. Went swimming at the pool..but some of us show their talent in singing in "videoke" rather than swimming at pool and most of the guys jam while drinking.. of course a "beer" . And it takes almost a midnight before they decided to take a rest. At around 1:00 early morning the last day of our tour, we prepared our stuffs because it times for us to go home.

Day 5 (End of Tour | August 29, 2008)

We departed Pansol, Laguna at exactly 2:00 AM. We are still sleepy and some still have hang-overs at that time because of the party happened earlier.

We did a stop-over at Naga City to have breakfast, and after that we continue on travelling until we reached Tabaco Seaport unknowingly. At exactly 12:00 PM, we took our lunch at the seaport itself & ate fastfoods from Jollibee. We, then, now paid our ship ticket individually & still having the 50% discount that we've granted from our beloved Provincial Governor Joseph C. Cua. We were also discount from our fare due to the extra money we have during that time (excess money from the solicited funds).

Upon the trip to our beloved province of Catanduanes, at the M/V Calixta, still, there's a lot of 'kulitan' happened and some of the guys took pictures of those who were asleep, and not knowing, after several hours of cruising the sea we reached the San Andres seaport at approximately 4:00 in the afternoon. Everybody is tired, still sleepy but some were enjoyed the trip took the top-load & still 'alive and kicking'.

The same process that did before we went to San Andres Seaport, it's "KKB(Kanya-kanyang Byad)" in paying the fare for the jeepney we hired. Almost 5:00 PM, we reached the Virac Bus Terminal & still, it's "KKB" - "Kanya-kanyang Buhat" ng gamit.

Everybody was tired, everybody was exhausted, & still hang-over is still there - hang-over from the very kaabang-abang, kapana-panabik, and the most awaited moment of being a third year BS Information Technology here in CSC was then ended at a very short moment of time, but safe, enjoy, fascinating, & advantageous educational tour.

We would to thanks the individuals whom gave their assistance and helped us to pursue & push through in reality the educational tour we've been undertaken. Again, MABALOS SAINDO GABOS!!!
